Java Software Engineer - Backend

Mint.com is the world's most popular free online personal finance application, which aggregates and automatically categorizes your financial data. We use proprietary algorithms to detect patterns in your financial situation, and present savings opportunities customized for you.


Responsibilities:

You will design and develop server-side components that power Mint's web application. For example this includes areas such as:

• Persistence (we use Hibernate and MySQL)
• Application-specific business logic (financial calculations, modeling, etc)
• APIs for our web-tier to call into these business logic services
• Messaging / request-routing middleware, load-balancing features (we use JMS as our messaging backbone)
• Performance tuning
• Security features

Experience Required
• 2-5 years of server-side Java development experience
• Interest in back-end infrastructure and business logic
• Strong OO design skills, and understanding of design patterns
• Fluent in SQL (MySQL experience preferred). Understanding of O/R mapping concepts and tools (Hibernate, JDO)
• Good social skills and a positive attitude.
• Linux or other Unix experience
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science from a competitive school

Nice To Have

• Basic-intermediate fluency in some server scripting language (Bash and Python preferred)
• Experience with web services, XML, and standards for describing and processing XML documents.
• Previous startup experience
